Long ago when I was young
\nAnd learning from my parents tongue
\nI came to know of many things
\nTo know the joy that learning brings<\/p>\n
I learned the origin of man
\nI learned just how it all began
\nI knew of mighty men of fame
\nBut I didn’t know God had a name<\/p>\n
As time passed by, my knowledge grew
\nThere seemed no end to things I knew
\nThe alphabet now came alive
\nI knew my numbers well past five<\/p>\n
I learned of people and their acts
\nI learned great scientific facts
\nI knew of Christ who healed the lame
\nBut didn’t know God had a name<\/p>\n
One day a stranger spoke to me
\nAnd told me where to find the key
\nTo knowledge of eternal life
\nDevoid of illness, pain and strife<\/p>\n
I listened to this humble man
\nAs he unfolded God’s great plan
\nHe told me of the Kingdom’s birth
\nHow men would beautify the earth<\/p>\n
He told of things I’d never read
\nI somewhat hesitantly said,
\n“Tell me please, does he have a name
\nThis God of unsurpassing fame?”<\/p>\n
He said “Would you please take the book
\nI hold here in my hands and look
\nUntil you find Psalm 83
\nAnd then read verse 18 to me?”<\/p>\n
Thus as I read “That men may know”
\nI felt the tears begin to flow
\nFor here before me I could see
\nThe answer to this mystery<\/p>\n
“Jehovah” was his name I read
\nYes, that is what the scripture said
\nI thanked the man who came to share
\nAnd brought the answer to my prayer<\/p>\n
But now I pray I ne’er forget
\nThat others haven’t heard it yet
\nSo may I publicly proclaim
\nThe knowledge of that mighty name<\/p>\n
